Richard W. Karing

Events

Richard W. Karing, of West Middlesex, formerly of Sharon, died on Monday (May 13, 2019) in Sharon Regional Medical Center of pancreatic cancer. He was 66.
Here is my story: One thing I was really proud of was making it through my life without a cellphone or computer. I loved keeping "Big Brother" on the run.
I graduated from Sharon High School in 1971, where I participated in football and track and field. I tried my best.
During high school I worked at the Columbia Theater and Mott Robertson's Ice Cream plant. After that I went to National Castings, Sharon Steel and Joy Cone before I found my permanent home at Wheatland Tube for 41 years.
I helped coach midget football in West Middlesex for 15 years, but my greatest passion was coaching the Yourga Indians in West Middlesex Little League for 30 years. I really enjoyed teaching the kids how to play the game and have some fun, too! I say thanks to all the kids and my coaches for making it one of the highlights of my life. Remember, 10 in a row; come on, throw strikes; and, show time!
I also had a Pirate season ticket since 1997 and enjoyed going to the games when I could.
Next, the guys I worked with at Wheatland Tube. Let me say you made it interesting, frustrating and fun. I enjoyed every minute of it. I truly enjoyed my job and being around all you guys.
But I would have to say that the group of guys I worked with the closest in my last four years were the best. Thanks Tim, Mike, Spiro, Gary, Ray, Scott, Greg, Mark, Fred, Bill, Kenny and Mike; a privilege for sure. Hey, guys, don't throw any couplings, and please pick up the caps.
I especially want to thank my wife, Terri, whom I married in 2004, for doing her best with her son Mark's help till the very end. Luv ya! And to our five cats, Maynard, Peanut, Sam, Magic and Caligirl for their companionship too.
I am survived by: my wife, Terri, at home; step-sons, Stephen (Jennifer) Matasic of Coitsville, Ohio, Mark Matasic in Campbell, Ohio, Michelle (Jonathan) Burnett of Dublin, Ohio; grandchildren Michael and Sophia Matasic, Berlin and Sabastian Burnett; three brothers, Paul of Mercer, Brian, in Hermitage and Chris (Angela) of Sharon; and my nephew, Nicholas Karing of Greenville.
Predeceased by my parents, Edward and Freda Karing.
A very special thanks to: my baseball buddy, John D'Urso; friend and fellow workers Brian Ruffo, Earl Wiley, Jeff Grande, Mark Freind, Gary McElhaney, Gianni Ruffo, Mike Ruffo, Gary and Travis Wojtalik, George Burns, Mark Marcucci, and Mark Mikulski, Jeff Miodrag, Patte Thornburg and Amy Tuscano. Awesome guys, Thanks! Darlene and Ann Ruffo for help with my antibiotics. Our neighbors Brittany and Shane for the help, meals and prayers. Eric and Lori for cutting the grass and their thoughts also. Frannie and retirees at the diner and to Dr. Shasdeva, Dr. Vallub, Dr. Hassan, Dr. Khurana and nurses Sherrie and Kim, in Hermitage and Cleveland, for keeping me going as long as they could.
Well, I guess that's it. All that's left to say is that it was one heck of a ride, and I'll see you again on the other side!
