Master Sgt. Richard "Rick" Bennett, 44, of Seguin, Texas, passed away June 30, 2019, as a result of injuries from a motor vehicle accident.
He was born Nov. 4, 1974, in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, and lived most of his childhood in Grove City. After graduating with honors from Grove City High School, he entered the Air Force Reserve on April 23, 1993.
Rick enjoyed an adventurous Air Force career, spanning 26 years starting as an Aeromedical Evacuation Technician at Lackland Air Force Base and later Regional Operations Manager at the Air Reserve Component Case Management Divison at Randolph Air Force Base.
Throughout his career, he flew numerous missions in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, providing life-saving medical care for over 400 wounded warriors. In his later years, he was hand-selected to open a new division responsible for taking care of injured Guard and Reserve service members. He was highly respected for his knowledge of policy and was instrumental in the current change of strategic policy.
Rick loved his family and friends and knew no strangers. His other loves were Texas, the Second Amendment, meat, tinkering, inventing and mentoring. Everyone who met him walked away a better person. He was always there to lend a hand at a moment's notice.
He is survived by his parents, Bill and Sue Bennett, Grove City; his sister, Michelle Rose, and her children Brandon, Michael and Chazz, and great-nephew Xander, Grove City; his partner of 9 years, Cody Atkinson and her children Keith, Cody and Sarah Atkinson, Seguin, Texas; and his former wife's children, Crystal Fox and Ashley Berthe, both Kerville, Texas.
Memorial contributions can be made to Gold Star Family.

Dear Sue and Bill...I extend my sincere sympathy to you in the death of your son. I pray that God will bless and comfort you during this time of grief. It sounds like he was a wonderful son, but nothing compares to the loss of a child....it just tears away a part of your heart. If you need anything or if I can do something to help, do not hesitate to call me. God bless.
