Rev. Thomas's Story

Rev. Thomas Jefferson Bolling, of Farrell, died at 3:06 a.m. Wednesday (July 12, 2017) in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren, Ohio, after an extended illness. He was 80.
He was born March 15, 1937, in Sprott, Ala., to Charlie and Mary McGlothum Bolling.
He had been a truck driver for Peter J. Schmitt Co. He was pastor emeritus of Second Missionary Baptist Church, Farrell, where he retired in September 2010 after 26 years as pastor. He served as chaplain for the Farrell and Sharon police departments. He was a member and past officer of several community organizations.
He graduated from Bidwell Porter High School in 1955. He also graduated from American Baptist Theological Seminary and from Newburgh Theological Seminary with a master's degree in 2006.
He served in the Army.
He is survived by his wife of 49 1/2 years, Phyllis Elaine Pinckney Bolling, whom he married March 16, 1968; a son, Jeffery Alan Bolling (Leslie), Centennial, Colo.; a daughter, Tamara Jo Harrison (Rev. T. James), Farrell; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Rosie Stamps, Joliet, Ill.; Thelma Lewis, Washington, D.C.; Mary Jean Mason (Lloyd), Landover, Md.; Shirley Lockhart (Woodie), Las Vegas; Betty Marshall, Farrell; and Catherine Taylor, Hermitage; and two brothers, Charlie Bolling Jr. (Theresa), West Point, Miss.; and Clifton Bolling (Josie), Painesville, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a sister, Alma Pennick-Allen; and a granddaughter, Chere Robinson.

Calling hours: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday (7-16-17) and 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Monday (7-17-17) in Second Missionary Baptist Church, Farrell. Family will receive visitors at 613 Sharon-New Castle Road, Farrell.
Service: 11 a.m. Monday in the church with the Rev. Avon Odom, pastor of Greater Friendship Baptist Church, Warren, Ohio, as eulogist.
