Philip "Tom"'s Story

Philip T. "Tom" Cory, 84, of Meadville and formerly of Grove City, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept.18, 2017 at his residence with family by his side.
He was born Feb. 17, 1933, in New Brighton, Pa., a son of Philip A. and Jessie Higley Cory.
He married the mother of his three children, Rose Marie Hagen. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2017. He had married JoAnn Marie Troglione on May 19, 1990, and she preceded him in death on July 21, 2013.
He graduated from Grove City High School and went on to banking school. He was employed for many years with the Grove City National Bank and its predecessors. He worked as a land man for National Fuel Gas.
Philip was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of VFW Post 2006, Meadville. He was also a member of American Legion Post 565 and the Charles N. Stafford Post III Home Association, Meadville.
Philip was also a member of the Moose Club Lodge 471, Beach Gardens, Fla., Conneaut Lake VFD, former member of the Lions Club, and the Boating Club, Grove City. He enjoyed fixing cars and time he spent in Florida.
Philip is survived by his son: Jeffrey Cory, Meadville, two daughters: Janice Cory and Joyce Cory both of Cambridge Springs; three step-children: Michael Sweeney (Kelly), Birmingham, Mich., Patrick Sweeney (Joanie), Gibsonia, Pa., Leslie Nearhoof (David), Mars, Pa.; 11 step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and his childhood friend, Donna Shaw, North Palm Beach, Fla. Nieces and nephews also survived.
In addition to his parents, his former wife, Rose Marie, and his wife JoAnn Marie, he was preceded in death by a stepson: James Sweeney; two sisters: Marjorie Connell and Roberta Connell; a brother James Cory; and a half-brother: Robert Winters.

Burial: Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church Cemetery with full military honors by VFW Post 2006.
