Events

Patricia A. Brandes, 79, of Sharpsville, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, May 29, 2019, at Canterbury Place Hospice, Pittsburgh, following a brief battle with brain cancer.
Pat, an only child, was born Aug. 13, 1939, to Earl and Sarah (Brandow) Mills in Watertown, N.Y.
Patricia graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1957 and from the State University of New York-Oswego in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
Patricia was a founder of the preschool at Grace Lutheran Church in Vestal, N.Y., back in the early 1970s. She was former Girl Scout leader and leader for the Explorer Scouts.
Pat volunteered for the Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Jefferson Townshup Fair. She served as the Jefferson Township tax assessor for many years.
She loved to sew, and her grandchildren have many wonderful memories of helping their "Nanny" sew, and looked forward to opening their presents with new flannel jammies every Christmas.
Patricia was also an avid lover of reading, gardening and supported many pet charitable organizations.
Trish is survived by her loving husband, Richard D. Brandes, whom she married Jan. 28, 1961; a son, Jeffery S. Brandes and his wife Stacy, Mercer; a daughter, Jamie Brandes and partner Dennis Misnick, Gansevoort, N.Y.; and five grandchildren, Gennifer Brandes, Culpeper, Va., Gillian Brandes, Stafford, Va., Morgan (Matt) Varney, Philadelphia, Paige Rosenberger and Mitchell Rosenberger, both of Gansevoort, N.Y.
There will be a celebration of life for her family at a later date, per Pat's wishes. Memorial donations may be made to the Mercer Area Library or The Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 51, Mercer, PA 16150.
