Myrtle LaVeda Starkey, 94, of Mercer, passed away at her residence at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, after an extended battle with cancer.
She was born in Weirton, W.Va., on March 17, 1923, to Henry and Esther Horner Siers.
LaVeda married William H. Starkey on Jan. 18, 1942. He died on March 1, 1999.
She was a nurse's aide at the former Mercer County Home, as well as a salesperson for Avon.
Mrs. Starkey was a member of Big Bend United Methodist Church and Brandy Springers.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy, wife of Carl Jewell, of Mercer; one son, William Starkey and his wife, Karen, of Bremerton, Wash.; one sister, Eva Lanham of Leesburg, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Shirley Smith; and two brothers, Harrison and Albert Siers.
