Megan W. Smith, 80, of Grove City, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.
Megan was born Oct. 20, 1936, in Sewickley to John R. and Sara E. (Davis) Walters.
She married Bruce E. Smith on June 14, 1959.
Megan was raised in Aliquippa and graduated in 1954 from Hopewell High School. She received a bachelor's degree in English and speech from Grove City College in 1958. She taught school in the North Allegheny and Grove City school districts.
Megan retired in 2002 from Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, Grove City, following 33 years of service, where she was an administrator for federal and state programs and coordinator of joint purchasing.
She was an active member, elder and trustee at East Main Presbyterian Church.
Megan was a member of P.E.O., Literary Club and Shakespeare Club, all of Grove City. She enjoyed reading and knitting.
Recently Megan received an award from The Daughters of American Colonists for knitting more than 150 helmet liners for troops in Afghanistan.
Megan is survived by: her husband, Bruce, at home; three children, Heather E. (Michael) Bailey of Devon, Pa.; Dr. B. Douglas (Mary) Smith of Baltimore; and Katherine A. (Douglas) Simmons of Pittsburgh; and six grandchildren.
Her parents; an infant sister, Judith; and a brother, John R. Walters Jr. preceded her in death.
