Mary Katherine Surrena, 80, of St. Paul's, West Salem Township, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2019.
Mary Kay was born on Oct. 13, 1938, a daughter to Martin and Lillian Klein.
After graduating from Hickory High School, class of 1956, she went on to earn a degree from Thiel College.
On June 12, 1965, Mary Kay married Roger "Butch" Surrena, and together they had two children.
She was employed as the first Secretary to the Administrator at Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital, and later was employed at the Hermitage Police Department.
Mary Kay enjoyed traveling with her husband to places such as Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and Niagara Falls, Canada. She also enjoyed gardening.
She loved attending both of her grandson's baseball and soccer games and watching her granddaughter perform at halftime with the dance line. Also, the activities and programs at St. Paul's provided much enjoyment on a daily basis for Mary Kay.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Youngstown, Ohio.
She cherished spending time with her family. Mary Kay will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Mary Kay is survived by her two children, Kimberly Schafer, and her husband Robert, of Hermitage, and David Surrena, and his wife Melissa, of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren, Army Servicemember David Schafer and his wife Caitlyn, of Germany, Army Servicemember Andrew Shafer of Ft. Campbell, Ky., and Sara Bovo and her husband Ronald, of Columbus; a great-grandson, Julian Schafer; twin great-granddaughters, Claire and Jane Schafer; and one brother, Martin Klein and his wife Elaine, of North Canton, Ohio.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Roger.

My deepest sympathy in your family's loss. You have many special memories to keep her in your heart forever. Mary Kay and I had many wonderful memories being neighbors for several years. She was a fun person. Enjoyed our visit just a few months ago. May she rest in peace. Blessings.
