Mary L. Potter, of Irwin Township, Venango County, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018, at the age of 86 following a short illness.
Born April 21, 1931, to Jacob and Ida Kocher, Mary enjoyed crocheting, baking, attending auctions, flea markets, yard sales and craft shows. She especially looked forward to having her family yard sale each summer.
Two of her biggest joys came from spending time with her family and feeding the wild birds.
Mary was a member of the Pleasantview United Methodist Church and was very active in the Barkeyville United Methodist Church and could be found at almost all church activities. She was best known for teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. While she taught almost all ages over the years, her biggest joy came from teaching the nursery class.
For many years, Mary provided daycare for many neighborhood children.
She was preceded in death by her husband James M. Potter, her parents, brothers Charles and Louis Kocher, and sisters Helen Miller, Gertrude and Grace Kocher.
She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Bruce (Paula) of Grove City; grandchildren Robin Potter of Dover, Del., Brian Potter of Dover, Del., Crystal Potter of Fairfield, Ohio, Matthew Potter of Grove City, and James Potter of Grove City. She also had two great-grandchildren, Xavier Callicoat of Huntington, W.Va., and Liam Price of Newark, Del. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
