Mary L. Osborne, 100, of Grove City, passed away at Grove Manor, Grove City, at 12:34 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 03, 2018).
She was born on Jan. 16, 1918, to Michael and Mary Anselm in Ellwood City.
Mary graduated from Lincoln High School in Ellwood City and did her nurse's training at Bashline School of Nursing in Grove City, graduating in 1940.
She worked nine months in Saginaw, Mich., before returning to Grove City to the love of her life, Homer Osborne, whom she married April 19, 1941.
She worked at Bashline Hospital in Grove City until the birth of her children when she became a full-time mom.
After Cathy started school she went back to work part-time until part-time turned into "eight days a week" when she decided full-time was better.
She worked at Bashline Rossman downtown, Oak Hill Annex, and later Grove City Hospital. Mary worked the operating room, emergency room, and medical surgical floors, soon becoming head nurse, retiring in 1983 as hospital infection control nurse.
She inspired every member of her staff to give the best possible care to every patient. She remained a committed nurse for 45 years but never lost sight of her first commitment, husband and children.
After she and Homer retired they began to travel, going to Arizona, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Germany, Austria, Hawaii, Switzerland, Israel and Greece. She kept in touch with family at annual reunions with her children and grandchildren and friends in town and away.
She never sought the limelight and was always content to do her part without fanfare. She was never happier than when she was doing something kind for someone. She gave her time and her resources to anyone and everyone in need.
Even after Homer's untimely death on Sept. 21, 1994, she continued her giving and kept up her involvement in the community and friends' lives and kept traveling. She touched many lives and left the world a better place for those around. Her unfailing sense of humor brightened untold lives.
She is survived by: two daughters: Roberta, wife of William Hart, of Canton, N.Y., and Catherine, wife of William Campbell, of Mercer; five grandchildren, Jonathan and his wife Christine Hart of South Mills, N.C., Julie Hart of Rhinebeck, N.Y., Brant Campbell of Mercer, Jason Campbell and his wife Laura of Pittsburgh, and Damon Campbell and his fiancé Kelly McCaughly of Portersville; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by: her husband Homer; five sisters, Virginia, Rose, Sally, Dorothy and Katherine; one brother, Martin; and one granddaughter, Jennifer.
The family would like to express thanks and appreciation to the staff of Grove Manor for all the love and care they gave her the last two years while she was a resident.
