Babe Lyden

December 24, 1924 - December 29, 2018

Babe Lyden Marie Lucille "Babe" Stabile Lyden, 93, entered into eternal peace Thursday afternoon, Nov. 29, 2018. She passed peacefully in her sleep at her home in Farrell, in which she resided for 90 years.
Marie was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Uniontown, Pa., to Louis and Mary Ferrara Stabile. Her family moved to Farrell when Marie was just three years old.
Marie graduated from Farrell High School in 1942. She was the sixth-ranked graduate. She took much pleasure in attending her Class of '42 lunches and reunions.
Marie married Joseph Lyden May 7, 1949, in St. Anthony's Italian Church in Farrell, later becoming Our Lady of Fatima Church. He passed on June 22, 1974, leaving Marie a widow at the young age of 49. She never remarried or even dated. Instead, she was totally devoted to her five children, her church and other family members.
Marie worked at the former Westinghouse in Sharon following her graduation until her marriage. She later worked at the former Routmann's Women's Clothing store and Willson's Furniture store in Sharon.
She was a founding parent of Our Lady of Fatima school in Farrell. She and other mothers volunteered their time as gym teachers. She devoted countless hours to fundraising activities for the school and parish. For many years, she was a PTA officer, wedding and cavatelli crew member and a permanent fixture at the front desk for the weekly fish fry and annual carnivale.
She was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society and Bethany Club. She was a devout Catholic and found much joy and solace in her daily prayers and weekly mass attendance and all events sponsored by the parish.
Remaining true to her Italian heritage, Marie hosted weekly Sunday dinners and all holidays and prepared the coveted holiday treats that her mother before her did and was sure to share them with all.
She was a woman of great strength and truly believed that all problems could be resolved with prayer and food.
After her retirement, she became a fan of the Pitt Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers football teams. She was also an avid fan of her grandchildren's sports activities.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellis (Gary), Blanchester, Ohio; Janet Lunich (Joseph), with whom Marie lived and was Marie's constant companion and caregiver in recent years; and Annette Toth (Mark), Hermitage; her seven grandchildren, Michelle Ellis Branham (Tom), Kurt Ellis (Colleen), Carrie Ellis, Justin and Erica Risavi, Kevin Toth (Kim), Nicole Toth Bucci (Onorato) and Dean Toth (fiancée Kami); her 10 great-grandchildren, Evan Branham, Janson and Avionna Cromartie, Ryan and Madelyn Toth, Luca, Eliana, Camila and Nicola Bucci and Kellan Toth.
Besides Marie's husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Dennis and Michael; her sisters, Carmella Stabile and Antonette Keller; and her brothers, Daniel, John, Michael and James. Also, her granddaughter-in-law Adrienne Toth.
A special thank you to Deacon Joseph Messina and his loyal home visits over the recent years to Marie to nourish her soul.
