Margaret Matey O'Donnell


Margaret Matey O'Donnell, of Hubbard-West Middlesex Road, West Middlesex, went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening, May 24, 2019, at St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage. She was 95 years old.
Margaret was born in Union Township on June 11, 1923, to the late Benjamin Joseph and Thelma Francis Hickey.
She married the love of her life, John Matey, in 1943, and he passed in 1988. She then married Richard O'Donnell in 1990. He passed in 2005.
Margaret was a graduate of Buhl School of Nursing as an Army cadet in 1946 and worked at Sharon General Hospital in general and private duty care as an RN. She then worked as a nurse anesthetist and was employed at SGH for 40 years prior to her retirement.
Margaret was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of West Middlesex where she was an elder.
Margaret was an avid reader and loved to cross stitch pictures for her family. She had fun gambling and playing bingo and loved to travel.
Survivors include three daughters: Tammy (Don) Thompson of West Middlesex, Holly (Bill) Garman of West Middlesex, and Jill (Tom) Wasilewski of Hermitage; one son, Jack (Marsha) Matey of Lima, N.Y;. one brother, Donald (Bernice) Hicky of Butler; eight grandchildren: Theresa (Dean) Hoffman; Donald (Rachael) Thompson; Bill (Billie) Garman; Alan (Stacey) Garman; Marcella (Sam) Mueller; Johnathan Matey; Nathan (Heidi) Miklos; and Maggie (Hanson) Sponseller; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her two husbands, three sisters precede her in death: Eloise O'Neill, Marion Hertig and Thelma Judy, along with a grandson, Evan Miklos.
The family would like to thank everyone from John XXIII for their prayers, compassion, and care of our mother. Mom, we will see you on the other side.

Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday (5-28-19) at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 3126 Main St., West Middlesex.
Funeral services: 1 p.m. Wednesday (5-29-19) at The West Middlesex Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jason Hickman officiating.
Interment: America's Cemetery, Hermitage.
