Louis  Raketich
Louis "Lazo" Raketich, 93, a longtime resident of the Shenango Valley, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Aug. 11, 2019, in St. Paul's Home, Greenville.
Mr. Raketich was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Kanjani, Yugoslavia, a son of the late Jovan and Mara (Cakic) Raketic. Raised in Yugoslavia, he served in the Chetniks during World War II, an army of Serbian freedom fighters.
After emigrating to the U.S. in 1949, Lazo took a job at Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant. He retired as a heater in the soaking pits in 1988, following 38 years of employment.
Lazo was an active member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Hermitage, where he enjoyed barbecuing for various festivals and events.
He was a member of the Serbian National Federation (SNF), Vidovdan Lodge 68, Farrell, and was recognized as the SNF "Man of the Year" in 2002. Lazo also belonged to the Movement of Serbian Chetniks "Ravne Gore," and served as the longtime president of the Serbian Home, Farrell. Additionally, he was a 32nd Degree Free and Accepted Mason, and a member of Kedron Lodge 389, West Middlesex.
His beloved wife, the former Mildred Pradovich, whom he married May 17, 1953, passed away July 17, 2010.
He is survived by a daughter, Smilja Raketich, Laveen, Ariz.; three sons, Jovan Raketich, Tempe, Ariz., Peter Raketich and his wife Donna Lou, Chandler, Ariz., and Mark Raketich, West Middlesex.
Besides his parents and wife, Lazo was preceded in death by a sister, Tomica Vudragovic; and two brothers, Mirko and Marko Raketic.
Memorial donations may be directed to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 65 S. Keel Ridge Road, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Pomen service: 7:30 p.m. Friday (8-16-19) in the
funeral home.
Service: Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday (8-17-19) in St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, with Father Vedran Grabic officiating.

Very sorry for the loss of Mr. Raketich, he was a fun loving man that taught all of us a few lessons and for that, I Thank You!!! To Smilja/Max, Jovan, Petar/Donna Lou, Mark and Pete, May He Rest In Peace now and be with ALL of his friends and family! Love you all so much, Thank you for allowing me to be part of your Family! So sorry to hear the sad news of louie passing my condolences to the family. It was a pleasure to take care of louie and it was always nice to hear the stories from him and louie always trying to teach us girls how to talk Serbian plus there was never a dull moment with him I will and always remember him and he will be missed by many 1😭😭 R.I.P. With sympathy.. So sorry for your loss, may the love of others around you help you through the days ahead. I'm glad I got to take care of him for little over a year, never a dull moment with him, loved hearing his stories. He will sadly missed..
