Larry Shonka

Larry Shonka Larry Shonka, 66, of Greenville, passed away in his home, following a lengthy battle with cancer on Monday evening (Feb. 18, 2019.)
He was born in Laurel Gardens, Pa., on Aug. 3, 1952, to Harry R. and Lilian (King) Shonka.
Larry, a 1970 graduate of North Hills High School, earned a bachelor's degree from Geneva College and an associate's degree from Penn State, Shenango.
He held the position of an ombudsman and apprise coordinator for the Mercer County Area Agency on Aging. Previously he was co-owner of an auto body shop with his brother, and at one time worked for Trinity Industries.
Larry enjoyed fishing but was most known for his affection for gardening.
A quote by Gertrude Jekyll sums up Larry's passion: "The lesson I have thoroughly learnt, and wish to pass on to others, is to know the enduring happiness the love of a garden gives."
Larry is survived by his wife, Patricia "Patty" (O'Neill) McCluskey Shonka. Also surviving are: his father, Harry R. Shonka; his brother, Wayne Shonka, both of Jackson Center; his sister-in-law, Linda C. Shonka of Sandy Lake; his daughter, Michelle Baldwin, husband, Mike, and his two grandsons, Ryan and Nathan, all of Allison Park, Pa.; two nieces, Jaime Shonka, and Samantha Hinson and her husband, George; and a nephew, Ethan Shonka.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lilian (King) Shonka and brother, Steve Shonka.
The family would like to thank St. Paul's Continuing Care Community and Southern Care Hospice for the compassionate care they gave Larry.
An act of loving kindness may be made to the charity of donor's choice.

Larry was a student of mine at Penn State. How that man loved to laugh! His work with the elderly in this county will never be forgotten. All love and prayers to his family and friends.

I knew Larry through my job at a LTC facility and the one thing that comes to mind when I think of him is he was always happy and smiling! My condolences go out to his family and I will keep you in my prayers.
