Kathryn's Story

Kathryn Metheny (Greig) Burger, 85, of Grove City, passed away on Sept. 5, 2017.
She was born March 20, 1932, and was a graduate of Big Beaver Falls High School and Geneva College.
"Kitty," as everyone knew her, was an amazing educator, having worked in the Big Beaver Falls School District and Blackhawk School District (Northwestern). Additionally, she taught a few evening classes at Geneva College.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Kathryn also served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder in College Hill Presbyterian Church.
She was the past president of the Kindergarten-Primary Association; past secretary of the Beaver County Kindergarten Association; and a member of the Pennsylvania State and National education associations.
She also worked with Meals on Wheels, served as a storyteller for Kiwanis Club and Carnegie Library Outreach, was a member of the 37th Street Playground Committee, and was a volunteer at Grove City Medical Center.
Kitty was most recently a member of Balm United Methodist Church, upon her relocating to Grove City.
Kathryn was preceded in passing by: her husbands, Harold W. Greig and Robert A. Burger; her parents, Dr. Brainerd and Kathryn Metheny; and her brothers, Dave, Richard and John Metheny.
She is survived by: her sons, David Scott Greig and Harold Kevin Greig, of Beaver Falls, and Richard Tad Greig and his wife Tina, of Mercer; grandsons David Greig and wife Katie, of Mercer, and Devin Greig and partner Jessica Kimbell of Baden; and great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Derek Greig. Her extended family includes: Jean and Kathryn Metheny of Gainesville, Fla.; Sandy and Billy Hayes of North Eastham, Mass.; and Elizabeth Burger of Del Ray Beach, Fla.
