John C. Wellendorf

John C. Wellendorf John C. Wellendorf, 88, of Sharpsville, was diagnosed with the rare disease, Transverse Mylitis 14 months ago. It left his lower extremities paralyzed, but at home on Friday (Oct. 19, 2018), surrounded by his family, he left the frailty of his earthly body and ran into the arms of his Savior made completely whole again.
John was a wonderful man and loved by many. He was born in Youngstown to Lester and Grace Wellendorf on April 24, 1930.
He graduated from Penn High School, which later became Greenville High School.
He started working on the family farm at a young age and later became a self-taught mechanic.
In 1992, he retired from Commercial Shearing and Stamping (later called Commercial Intertech) in Youngstown.
He was known to never miss a day of work. He also owned his own business - "John's Repair Service." There was nothing he could not fix - from a mower to a car to an electrical appliance, John would know a way to make it work again.
In his earlier years he enjoyed being on the CB Radio and everyone knew him as "Slick." His name was perfect for him. His appearance was always important and you would never see him without his hair combed and a comb in his pocket.
John loved hunting and fishing and was a member of the Brookfield Conservation Club where he ran the Turkey Shoots for many years. He was also an active member of South Pymatuning Community Church, Sharpsville, where he served as a trustee and head usher.
Above all else, his greatest love was spending time with his family and being a part of their lives. He taught them the importance of making memories together, and they made many - from sharing sporting events to vacations in Florida, Myrtle Beach and the mountains, to dinners and laughs around the table. He was the best and made every adventure fun.
Missing him in life are: his wife of 69 years, Rosemarie (Winner); children, Linda (Rev. Dr. Nick) Protos, Ken (Bonnie) Wellendorf and Janet (Rev. David) Searle; grandchildren, Nikki (Kevin) Hagen, Timothy (Amy) Protos, Ken Wellendorf, Kevin (Julie) Wellendorf, Stephen (Adrian) Searle, Stacy (Lee) Beach, Justin (Autumn) Wellendorf; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were: his parents: Lester and Grace Wellendorf; sisters, Ruth (Elane) Patrick and Peg Buckalew; brother Lester (Bud) Wellendorf; and many other family members and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to South Pymatuning Community Church, 3400 Tamarack Drive, Sharpsville, 16150, or the Brookfield Conservation Club, 1951 Hogue Road, Masury, Ohio, 44438.
