James Wilson Sr., Mercer, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at the age of 79, surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 2, 1938, in Turtle Creek, Pa., to Anna Marie Godula and Joseph Wilson. He was the youngest of six.
Jim graduated from Mercer High School, where he was active in sports including football and basketball. He remained close with his high school friends until the time of his death, especially Steve Biros.
He attended Grove City College and Youngstown State University. He worked at Mercer Tire Co. for years with his family and later started his own business, Fluorescent Tire, with his son James Jr.
James enjoyed the outdoors and traveling with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was always known to take the scenic route, which extended each trip by hours. He loved to play cards, sing, hunt, and play pranks, make jokes, and spend time with his beloved family and friends. He was known by his humor, selflessness, and kindness among everyone that met, knew and loved him. He adored all animals, especially the family dogs.
James was preceded in death by parents; brothers Joseph, Richard and Glen; a sister, Dorothy; and nephews, family and friends whom he adored.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean; his children: Lorie (Mark) Farmartino, James Jr. and John (Lisa) Wilson as well as his brother Don (Mary) Wilson; brother-in-law, Henry Rossi; and sister-in-law, Clara Wilson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Pa": Josh (Celeste) Wilson, Christina, Rocky James, Michael and Mariah; and his great-grandchildren, Hannah, Lily, Avery, and Hunter James.
He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Robert (Marianne) Grimm and Paul (Edith) Grimm ,as well as a sister-in-law, Pamela (Chuck) Moose.
