Irene I. LaMotte, 110 Fredonia Road, Greenville, died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Nov. 2, 2017, at The Grove at Greenville. She was 88.
She was born Aug. 29, 1929, in Butler to Eugene Hovis and Mabel Lindsey Hovis.
Irene married the love of her life, Arthur LaMotte, on March 30, 1950. He passed away March 5, 2011.
She graduated from Butler High School in 1947. Irene was a member and a trustee of Hadley Presbyterian Church.
In 1971 Irene and Art purchased a dairy farm near Greenville where they raised their five children. Irene worked at a local Ford dealership before becoming employed by State Farm Insurance, which she retired from in 1996. She would often help her husband at the Iron Bridge Shop, which they owned from 1991 to 2001.
Irene enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, cross stitch, bowling, puzzles, playing cards and family functions. She also enjoyed watching Jeopardy, and one of her fondest memories is meeting Alex Trebek when he came to conduct the Greenville Symphony Orchestra.
She is survived by sons, Randv LaMotte and his wife Esther and Jerrv LaMotte and his wife Terri, all of Greenville; daughters, Debbie LaMotte of Sharon; Denise Poole and her husbend Brian "Stretch" of Greenville, and Michelle Potter and her husband Barry of Virginia; brother-in-law, Darrell LaMotte and his wife Connie of Butler; a special sister-in-law, Evelyn Hovis of Center Valley, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; three brothers, Bob Hovis, Leonard Hovis and Eugene Hovis Jr.; and a sister, Helen Scott.
Memorials may be made to the Activity Fund at The Grove at Greenville, whose special and compassionate care was appreciated.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Steve LaMotte, Irene's grandson, officiating.
Burial: Hadley Cemetery, Hadley.
