Geraldine "Gerry"'s Story

Geraldine L. "Gerry" Bennefield, of Farrell, passed away on Sept. 13, 2017, at the UPMC Horizon's Shenango Campus, Farrell. She was 74.
Mrs. Bennefield was born Feb. 28, 1943, in Farrell, a daughter to Wade and Irene (Farrow) Johnson.
A 1961 graduate of Farrell High School, she furthered her education at the former Shenango Valley School of Business, where she studied business administration.
She worked as a director for AWARE Inc., a Mercer County domestic and sexual violence agency, and later as director of the Ark House, Farrell. She also volunteered at Minority Health Advocacy for several years.
Her faith led her to the Greater New & Living Way Temple of the Apostolic Faith, Sharon, where she was water-baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Spirit. She later became a licensed minister and was also a member of the Gospel Ensemble, Mass Choir, administrative team and pastor's stewards. She was also a Sunday school secretary and worked in the Ministry of Comfort.
Minister Bennefield was the first lady of the Third Episcopal District of Apostolic Ministries Inc., where her husband is District Bishop.
She is survived by: mother, Irene Johnson, Hermitage; husband, Bishop Stephen L. Bennefield, Farrell, whom she married Jan. 14, 1984; children, Stephen L. Bennefield, Jr. (Destinee), Niles, Ohio, Janise Brown, York, Pa., Learl Jordan, Charleston, W.Va., and Jerrold Jordan, Wheatland; sisters, Karen Weston (Ronald), and Marie Davis, both Farrell; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father; daughter, Karen Jordan; granddaughter, Ashley Bostick; and brother, Wade Johnson Jr.

Calling hours: 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Monday (9-18-17) at the Greater New & Living Way Temple, 840 Highland Road, Sharon.
Service: Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. Monday in the church with Bishop Alvin McCoy as officiant. Apostle Sonja Theodore will eulogize.
Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
