Gerald R. McCann, Cossitt Road, Transfer, West Salem Township, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, 2018, at the Greystone Estates, Fredonia. He was 85.
He was born in Fredonia on Aug. 12, 1932, a son of the late Urban P. and Martha (Schiestle) McCann.
He had been a lifelong dairy farmer on the family homestead in West Salem Township, had been employed at the former Greenville Steel Car and had been a salesman for Combined Insurance where he was recognized as the top salesman for several consecutive years.
He was a member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association and the St. Michael Roman Catholic Church.
He is survived by his former wife, L. Charlene of South Carolina; four sons, Gerald Matthew McCann and his companion Lauren Nugent of Greenville, Stephen Mark McCann and his fiancee Kathy Walker of Hadley, Kevin Luke McCann of Erie, and Eric John (Brenda) McCann of Greenville; three daughters, Mary Therese (Greg) Hamilton of Greenville, Christine Marie Vernon of Greenville, and Anne Maureen (Mike) Wansor of Greenville; two sisters, Dolores Rinella of Sharpsville and Louise (Kenneth) McKnight of Clark; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; eight brothers, William McCann, John McCann, Clifford McCann, Regis McCann, Robert McCann, Frank McCann, Donald McCann and Joseph McCann; and six sisters, Marie Swartz, Patricia Kulka, Irene Reash, Helen McCann, Lorene Miles and Eleanor Metelsky.
