George Harry Gibson, 84, Wise Road, Hermitage, passed away Thursday evening Sept. 28, 2017, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Butler County March 23, 1933, to the late Theodore R. and Bertha M. Schreiber Gibson Sr.
He married Shirley L. Wheaton on Sept. 15, 1956, and she survives at the residence.
He was a 1951 graduate of Fredonia/Delaware High School and retired from Sharon Steel.
He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.
George was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Hermitage, and its men's group.
He enjoyed his membership in the Shenango Valley Antique Car Club and Hermitage Historical Society and enjoyed the fellowship of the Sharon Steel Retirees.
While he enjoyed antique cars, bus trips, and loved nature, most important to George were his family and friends.
Surviving are: his wife, Shirley Gibson; a daughter, Linda (Jonathan) Willey of Sharon; a son, George H. Gibson Jr. of Hermitage; three sisters, Gertrude Werth, Nancy Fisher, and Sarah McCormick; four grandchildren, Joshua (Lynnly) Willey, Jennifer (Rick) Rock, Kristen (Doug) Smith, and Nathaniel Willey; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, T.R. Gibson Jr., Leslie Gibson, and Homer Gibson, and a daughter-in-law, Jody.
In lieu of flowers a memorials may be given to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave., Hermitage, PA 16148.
