George Edward Garrett, better know as Ed, 89, of New Wilmington, passed away Thursday (Dec. 14, 2017).
Born Oct. 20, 1928 to George and Dorothy Garrett, Ed was a lifelong New Wilmington resident.
After graduating from Wilmington High School, he worked as a mechanic before going to work for the Borough of New Wilmington. He worked for the borough as the superintendent until his retirement in 1995.
Ed married Betty Jean Love on June 9, 1950. The couple has two sons.
Known for his natural talent and love of woodworking, Ed worked paycheck to paycheck to build the home his family was raised in.
Ed was an incredibly generous person who was always known to help people however he could, especially when it came to fixing just about anything that needed to be fixed.
Ed loved to take "short cuts" when he drove places - even if it was somewhere he had never been - and it was well-known by his family that there was nothing short about them.
He was loved and admired by his family who appreciated his talents, his sense of humor and his generosity.
Ed spent the final years of his life at Shenango on the Green. The family is very grateful for the wonderful care he received there and appreciates the many caregivers who became like family during his time there.
He is survived by: his wife; sons, Richard (Beth) and Fred (Mary Criss); a brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Sue Garrett; a sister and brother-in-law, Jessie and Clem Hasinger; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: three siblings: John, Louise, and Marie; and one grandson: Cody Kuykendall.
