Gary's Story

Gary L. Patterson, 71, Fairview Township, Fredonia, passed away at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, after an extended illness.
Born July 18, 1946, in Grove City, he was a son of Dallas L. and Alberta Clara Rosner Patterson.
Gary was a 1964 graduate of Lakeview High School.
He was a U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran.
In his early years, Gary worked at Foster Grading of Jackson Center, then for Greenville Steel Car for several years and retired in 1999 from Air Liquid after 27 years as the plant operator.
Gary loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and golfing, feeding the birds, especially hummingbirds, and for many years raising black Labs. Most of all, he was a family man and loved spending his time with the grandchildren, Dylin, Dallas, Nicole, Kage, Allyson, Hagen, Emma, and Hudson and great-granddaughter Cadence.
His wife, the former Kathy J. Schell, whom he married June 11, 1971, survives at home. Also surviving are: his children, Jeff D. (Terresa) Patterson and Jill D. Patterson, all Fredonia; Jennifer D. and (Drew) Stemm, Noblesville, Ind.; a brother, Randy (Carole) Patterson, Greenville; and several loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather Orville "Grandpa Pete" Ray.
