Gail Elaine Stroup, 70, of Warren, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at St. Joseph Hospital due to complications from emphysema.
She was born April 20, 1947, in Sharon, the daughter of the late Charles O. Pearce, Sr, and Viola M. (Parkinson) Marshall.
On Nov. 7, 1998, Gail married Stanford John Stroup. They shared 16 years of marriage until his passing Oct. 14, 2015.
She was a member of AMVets, American Legion in Sharon, Great American Showman Shriners and Eastern Star. Gail enjoyed going to bingo, crocheting, bowling, traveling, fishing, hunting and taking care of her seven cats. She also enjoyed going to casinos. She loved Neal McCoy and looked forward to going to Jamboree in the Hills every year. Gail was also considered a master of all trades, from crafting, to home remodeling, to electrical and mechanical repairs, she could do it all.
Gail was hired by Packard Electric in 1966, where she worked for more than 20 years, retiring in 1988.
In the late 1970s, Gail enrolled in a program to achieve her GED. She never attended a class. She completed the course materials, took the test and became a high school graduate.
In 1982, when she was 35, she took a brief leave from Packard to proudly serve with the United States Air Force Reserves. She served for six years before being honorably discharged in 1988.
In 1988, Gail, with her late husband, Stan, started a mobile food concession stand called Stroup's Delight. They both served ice cream at fairs and festivals, along with her daughters and grandchildren, whom she enjoyed sharing her time with. The business is still proudly operated today by her grandson, Alan Carpec.
From 1991 to 1998, she owned and operated the Anchor Motel located in Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio, which she also completely renovated herself.
Gail's memory will be carried on by her daughters, Patti (Andrew) Carpec Jr. of West Middlesex and Barb Black of Sharon; two brothers, Richard (Marlene) Pearce of Brookfield, Ohio, and Thomas (Cindy) Marshall of Sharon; first husband, Edward Mitcheltree of Sharpsville; six grandchildren, Alan, Andrew, Amanda and Emily Carpec and Marissa and Spencer Black; five great-grandchildren, Artie Marsteller, Alan Shawn and Beverly Carpec, Nevaeh Janz and Isabella Black; and two great-grandchildren on the way.
Besides her husband, Gail was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Charles O. Pearce Jr and Robert C. Pearce.
