Floyd's Story

Floyd Eugene Mills, of Transfer, formerly of Greenville, and Bedford County, departed this world on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at 8:58 p.m. in his home due to complications of acute renal failure and CHF. He was 91.
Floyd was born on Aug. 10, 1926, in Bedford to James H. and Pearl Morris-Mills.
He attended school until the eighth grade. Floyd served his country during World War II as a seaman first class in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1944 to 1946.
On June 30, 1948, he married his beloved wife, Grace Maxine Shearer.
Floyd worked at many places including, but not exclusively, Damascus Tube (shop), Reznor (manufacturing), Tajon Trucking (truck driver), Sakrete [American Stone] (truck driver) and Delaware Township (road worker).
He served 50 years at the Fredonia American Legion as treasurer, chaplain, armory and American Color Guard in many area parades. He was a member of the Transfer VFW, and a member of the Moose and Eagles, both in Greenville.
Floyd enjoyed working with his hands doing masonry work, working on cars, hunting, gardening, going out to the various social clubs, dancing and singing for his family and friends and spending time with his family.
Floyd and Grace had three children: son, Harry J. Mills, significant other Paula Coyle, Greenville; daughter, Linda L. Hoovler, husband Edward C., Fredonia; and son, Floyd J. Mills, wife Mary Pat, Greenville; 10 grandchildren: Valerie M. Roberts, husband Chad, Carrollton, Texas, Eric E. Mills, wife Vanessa, Spring, Texas, Eva McCann, husband Eric, Greenville, T.J. Marrie, wife Sherry, Kinsman, Mandi Zahniser, husband Andrew, Clarks Mills, Jason A. Mills, significant other, Jerry Matteucci, Transfer, Amber L. Ice, husband William, Jackson Center, Edward J. Hoovler, Greenville, Shawn A. Mills, significant other Toni Whyte, Greenville, and Matthew A. Mills, significant other Carol Darby, Greenville; and 13 great-grandchildren: Katrina, Kevin, Alexander, Maressa, Emma, Milo, Joyce, Silas, Kase, Colin, Cassidy, Reid and Carter.
Floyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace; parents, James and Pearl Mills; all his brothers and sisters, Calvin "Bill" Mills, Wilmer Mills, Homer Mills, Archie Mills, Marvin Mills, Sarah Messersmith, Freda Ritchey and Nancy Mills; son and daughter-in-law, Floyd Junior and Mary Pat Mills; and great-grandson, Alexander Mills.

Burial: America's Cemetery, with military honors provided by Reynolds VFW.
