Finley's Story

Finley "Bud" Beatty Jr., 93, of Mercer, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at Countryside Convalescent Home, Mercer, after an extended illness.
He was born on March 12, 1924, in Sharon, to the late Finley Beatty, Sr. and Ruby Good Beatty.
Bud was a graduate of Tionesta High School and retired in 1982 from Sharon Steel with more than 40 years of service.
He served in the Army stateside in World War II from 1943 to 1946. Bud married Maude Saunders on March 10, 1943, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 1966.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and American Legion Post 159 in Mercer. He loved deer hunting and was a "master" backyard mechanic who could fix most anything.
Finley married Jacqueline "Jackie" Nurmi on June 13, 1968.
He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Surviving are his wife, Jackie, at home; three daughters: Maudie Beatty of New Wilmington, Lynn, wife of Tom Colvin, of New Castle and Dawn, wife of David Mariacher, of Mercer; two sons, James Beatty and his wife Jodi, of Blythe, Ga., and Finley "Butch" Beatty III and his wife, Jerri, of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Chester Beatty of Wheatland; 11 grandchildren, Beth MacDonald and Angela Zeronas of Sharpsville, Andrew Franklin of West Middlesex, Lori Soderstrom of Jefferson, Ohio, LeAnn Grice, of New Castle, James Mariacher and Beth Walochik of Mercer, Lisa Story and James Beatty II of Blythe, Ga., Frankie Johnson of Chester, Va.; Ryan Campo of New York; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Maude Beatty; one son, Dale Nurmi; and three sisters: Dorothy Loreno, Anna Leonard and Stella Baumgratz.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coolspring Presbyterian Church, 787 Coolspring Church Road, Mercer, PA 16137.
