Father Donald's Story

Father Donald Lee Murrin, 84, passed away Oct. 27, 2017, in Houston, Texas, following a brief illness.
He was currently a priest in residence at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Liberty, Texas.
Father Don was born Jan. 19, 1933, in Greenville, son of the late Gerard and Mary Ardell Eisenman Murrin. He attended St. Michael's Parish School in Greenville before entering Sacred Heart Seminary in Girard, Pa., from which he graduated in 1950. He earned degrees at Canisius College, Buffalo, N.Y., and Divine Word College, Epworth, Iowa.
Father Don was ordained April 2, 1960, in Techny, Ill., in the Chicago Diocese, and into the Society of the Divine Word. He ministered at Our Lady of the Garden, St. Anselm and St. Elizabeth Catholic churches in Chicago, and St. Nicholas Parish in St. Louis. In the 1980s he moved south to serve as pastor at St. Mary's Parish, Vicksburg, Miss., St. Peter, Pinebluff, Ark., and St. Rose DeLima, Bay St. Louis, Miss., prior to his current assignment.
Fluent in Spanish, Father Murrin offered masses, baptisms and sacraments to the Hispanic community. It was said that he was kind, caring and always offered everyone he met a friendly smile. Father Murrin will be especially remembered for his compassion to the overlooked and less fortunate in his ministry.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his brothers: Nelson Murrin, Mentor, Ohio; William Murrin (Carol) Hermitage; Thomas Murrin (Teresa) Greenville; Michael Murrin (Chris) Sharpsville; and Lawrence (Joy) Raleigh, N.C.; his sisters: Elaine Gaus, Greenville; Gene Marie Murrin, Greenville; Margaret Moder (William) Hermitage; and Anne Portz (Matthew) McMurray, Pa.; 13 nephews and nieces; two grand-nephews and a grand-niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Anne Dupal Murrin; brother Richard Murrin; nephew John Murrin, brother-in-law Daniel Gaus; and sisters-in-law Cori Murrin and Antonia Murrin.
