Eric Thompson, of Lackawannock Township, died unexpectedly at 12:37 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, in UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. He was 57.
Eric was born April 14, 1960, in Sharon, to Ronald Thompson, Lackawannock Township, and the late Annabelle Haney Thompson.
He graduated from West Middlesex High School in 1978 then received a associate degree from Rosedale Technical Institute as a diesel tech and an associate degree from Penn State Shenango Campus in electrical engineering.
Eric was employed by Dow Jones (The Wall Street Journal), West Middlesex, in the Satellite Operations department as an electronic technician for 28 years then became self-employed on his farm.
He was a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church.
Eric was a lifetime member of Harley Owners Group lifetime and A.B.A.T.E and a member of the N.R.A., Ducks Unlimited, Western Reserve, Sharon American Legion, Hickory V.F.W., and Sons of Lake Erie. He enjoyed motorcycles and horses, hunting, fishing, golfing, hiking and backpacking.
He is survived by his wife Barbara (Kovach) Thompson, whom he married Dec. 15, 2014, at home; a daughter, Amanda Lavanish and her husband Evan of Transfer; a son, Ryan Thompson and his wife Sarah of Mercer; a sister, Lisa Black and her husband Joel of Mercer; a brother, Mark Thompson and his wife Ingrid of Hermitage; a grandson, Easton Lavanish; step daughter, Tami Owen and her husband John of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two step grandchildren, Laila and Logan Owen.
Eric was preceded in death by his mother.
