Eleanor Louise Welton Chandler, 76, of Metamora, Ill., passed away at Unity Point Health-Methodist in Peoria, Ill., on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017.
She was born in Springfield Township, Mercer County, on July 17, 1941, to Robert James Welton and Mary Louise Thompson Welton.
She married Charles Thomas Chandler on Dec. 24, 1982.
Eleanor graduated from Grove City High School in 1959. She started her working career as an Airline Stewardess for TWA. She then received a nursing degree from Gardner Webb College, and later received her bachelor's degree from Bob Jones University.
She worked very hard as a missionary and spent extended time training and serving on two different missionary journeys. The first was to Chad, Africa, and later to Kenya, Africa. While there, she worked as a nurse and helped bring the gospel to the many she cared for. She last worked for Home Health in Pickens County, S.C. Her brother Dick said, "Eleanor had a life-long interest in caring for others and she had a wonderful attitude." Her husband Charley said, "She loved those she cared for like they were her own."
Survivors include her husband, Charles, at home; son, Theodore "Ted" Chandler (Amanda) of Fredericksburg, Texas; daughter, Elaine Chandler of New Mexico; brother, R. Richard Welton (Judy) of Volant; four grandsons, Jonathan, Jake, Jace and Larry; and a granddaughter, Noelvia.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday (12-26-17) 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday (12-27-17) at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Village of Leesburg, 1778 Perry Highway, Volant.
Service: Funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday (12-27-17) in the funeral home, with Pastor Doug Toth officiating.
Interment: Findley Cemetery, Mercer.
