Edwin's Story

Edwin Marlin Brown, 76, of Mercer, passed away at 11:22 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born on Dec. 30, 1941, in Jefferson Township, to Edwin James and Margaret O'Mahony Brown.
Ed was a 1960 graduate of Mercer High School and worked for Kroger's for 21 years as a meat manager; Peter J. Schmitt Co. as a meat buyer and merchandiser; and finished his career as a corrections officer at the State Correctional Institution in Mercer.
Ed was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, former secretary of Mercer Optimist Club, and a former member of Mercer Jaycees.
He was a veteran of the National Guard.
Ed loved his family, extended family and close friends. He enjoyed golfing in several leagues, golfing with his wife and special friends and baking and making homemade sausage. He always had a joke and was very proud of his Irish heritage.
Ed is survived by his wife, Darlene Brandt Brown at the residence, whom he married on Aug. 10, 1964; one son, David Brown and Kristine Allen of State College; two daughters, Machelle, wife of Steve Hoover of Mercer; Kelly, wife of Graig Filer of Mercer; five grandchildren, Preston Hoover, Avery Hoover, Bradley Filer, Annalyse Hoover and Carson Filer; four sisters, Joanne Brown, of Mercer; Margery Sherman, of Mercer; Norie, wife of Ron Breth, of Butler; Cathy Heatley, of Mercer; and one brother, Mark Brown and his wife Linda, of Mercer.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, John Brown; and a brother, Robert J. Brown.

Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday (2-16-18) at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 144 S. Pitt St., Mercer.
Mass of Christian burial: 10 a.m. Saturday (2-17-18) at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 100 Penn Ave., Mercer, with the Very Rev. Matthew Kujawinski, V.F., officiating.
Burial: All Saints Cemetery, Jefferson Township.
