Edward D."Ed" Hoffman, 88, of Hermitage, died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at UPMC Jameson in New Castle after a brief illness.
The Cresson native was born on Feb. 6, 1929, the son of Francis E. and Susanna C. McConnell Hoffman.
He attended Cresson and Camden, N.J., area schools and was the owner of Ed Hoffman & Sons Construction of Hermitage, where he was a master carpenter.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean War.
He was a life member of VFW Post 6166 in Hermitage, a member of American Legion in Sharon and was a past member of Boy Scouts of America where he started Troop 60 at the Good Shepherd Church in West Middlesex.
Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing at the Clark House on Friday nights when the Wild Turkey Group was playing. He was a caller for bingo at the Hickory VFW, enjoyed riding his bike, canvas painting and farming. He started a singing group at Nugents Convalescent Home
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela J. Winkler and her husband, William, of Hermitage and Sherie L. Taylor and her husband, Byron, of Swanton, Ohio; five sons, David F. Hoffman and his wife, Maxine, of Port Angeles, Wash., Timothy A. Hoffman of Hermitage, Alan J. Hoffman of Greenville, Randy P. Hoffman and his wife, Kathryn, of Mercer and Ricky P. Hoffman of Farrell; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. (Melhorn) Hoffman, whom he married Oct. 20, 1952. She passed away Aug. 9, 2005.
He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Alma Russell , Pauline Seymour and an infant sister; and three brothers, Robert P. Hoffman, Howard J. Hoffman and an infant brother.
