Dorothy's Story

Dorothy Hurtt, of New Wilmington, died at 2 p.m. Friday (Feb. 9, 2018) at Shenango Presbyterian Seniorcare, Lawrence County, after an extended illness. She was 91.
Dorothy was born May 22, 1926, in St. Louis, to Winfield MacBride and Thora (Wilson) MacBride.
She graduated from Beaver High School in 1944 and during the war she worked for Curtis Wright in their propeller plant, and then she drove school bus for Mercer Area School District.
Dorothy was a member of White Chapel United Methodist Church in New Wilmington.
She belonged to the Mercer School Board, Republican Women Committee, Red Hat Society, Jackson Center Grange and the Grove City Women's Club.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling, farming and gardening.
She is survived by: a son, Robert M. Hurtt and his wife, Deborah, of New Galilee; a sister, Barbara Madish of Industry, Pa.; two grandchildren, Belinda Hurtt of New Castle, and Robert J. Hurtt of New Wilmington; and three great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Robert M. Hurtt, whom she married Sept. 2, 1950, and who passed away Feb. 6, 2005; and two brothers, Larry and Winfield.

Service: Memorial service at 5 p.m. Thursday (2-15-18) in White Chapel United Methodist Church, 415 New Castle-Mercer Road, New Wilmington, with Pastor Gary Sheesley officiating.
Cremation: JOHN FLYNN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., 2630 E. State St., Hermitage.
