Don McFarland, 88, of Sharon, passed away the morning of Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017.
Mr. McFarland was born July 14, 1929, in Pulaski to William Leonard and Irene Marie (Schinabeck) McFarland.
Don worked at Sharon Steel Corp. for 38 years.
He was a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan who attended game five of the 1948 World Series. He also spent a lot of time coaching and umpiring Little League Baseball around the Shenango Valley.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of First Baptist Church of Sharon, where he was a deacon and active with West Hill Ministries and the food pantry.
Mr. McFarland is survived by four children: David of Grove City; Robert and his wife Elizabeth of Federal Way, Wash.; Shirley Fair and her husband Robert of Hermitage; and Dale and his wife Bonnie of Sharon. He is also survived by five granddaughters: Sarah (John) Darraugh of Mercer; Jennifer Shaffer and her fiance, Jason Strawhecker, of Hermitage; Christina (Daniel) Coates of Wilkes-Barre; Kathryn and Margaret McFarland of Federal Way, Wash.; by two great-granddaughters, Kaylee Star Shaffer and Haylee Grace Strawhecker of Hermitage; and a great-grandson, Brendan Daniel Coates of Wilkes-Barre.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Louise Helen (Coxson) McFarland; his parents; and a sister, Edith Marie.
