David's Story

David Gene Nicoloff, of Hermitage, passed away unexpectedly Friday afternoon, Dec. 8, 2017, in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Medical Center. He was 72.
Mr. Nicoloff was born June 17, 1945, in Sharon, a son of Louis D. and Hilda (Badis) Nicoloff.
He was raised in Farrell and was a 1963 graduate of Farrell High School.
Dave was employed at Packard Electric Corp., Warren, Ohio, for more than 40 years, retiring in 2007.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed working part-time in the maintenance department of the Hermitage School District.
Dave was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon, where he sang in the choir.
An avid runner during the early 1990s, he participated in many marathons, including the Pittsburgh Marathon, and won numerous medals and trophies.
He also enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Knights of Columbus golf league and the former Danny's Golf League.
He and his wife, Cindy, enjoyed traveling, particularly to visit their daughters and trips to the casinos.
Dave was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a member of the Hickory VFW, Post 6166, Hermitage, the American Legion, Post 299, Sharon, and the Sons of Italy, Sharon.
His wife of 41 years, the former Cindy Lou Bonta, whom he married July 30, 1976, passed away Aug. 29, 2017.
Surviving are three daughters, Leisa Conlin and her husband, Tim, of Sharon, Jennifer Nicoloff of New York and Natalie Nicoloff of Scottsdale, Ariz; a son, Jason Nicoloff of Sharon; a granddaughter, whom he adored and enjoyed spending time with, Jessica Conlin of Niles, Ohio; a twin sister, Donna Kobsik and her husband, Fred, of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Louis C. "Chookie" Nicoloff and his wife, Patricia, of Denver; his father-in-law, Nick Bonta of Hermitage; a brother- and sister-in-law, John and Linda Comninos of Hermitage; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, Dave was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Nicole Marie Comninos; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy "Dottie" Bonta.
Dave volunteered to help cancer patients and participated in many of the Relay for Life and ALS walkathons. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The ALS Association, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 37022, Boone, Iowa, 50037-0022 (www.alsa.org).
