Daryl's Story

Daryl L. Haylett, of Sandy Lake (Mill Creek Township), passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side at 10:40 p.m., Friday, Aug. 4, 2017. He was 77. 
Born July 12, 1940 in Polk, he was a son of William R. and Minnie B. Carey Haylett. 
He was a 1959 graduate of Lakeview High School.
Daryl worked for 32 years at Franklin Steel, then after its closure he worked at Webco of Oil City and retired after eight years there.  For many years he and his wife also farmed and raised beef cattle. 
He served in the U.S. Navy during peacetime.
He attended the Mount Hope United Methodist Church.
Daryl loved the outdoors and especially loved to hunt. Most of all he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
His wife, the former Ruth Ann Shearer, whom he married April 7, 1966, survives at home. Also surviving are two daughters: Penny A. (Harold) Smeltz, Stoneboro, and Tammy L. Jewell, Ravenna, Ohio; five grandchildren: Scott Haylett, Sandy Lake, Nichole Jewell, Streetsboro, Ohio, and Kimberly, Stacy and Holly Jewell, Ravenna; and a sister Lois Morford, Franklin.
 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law Robert Jewell, two sisters, Mary Mae Cress and Katherine "Katie" Smith; and five brothers: Dale, Paul, James, Elmer and Clarence Haylett.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday (8-8-17) in the funeral home with Rev. Janet R. Pratt and Rev. Earl R. Dykes, of Methodists United In Faith, officiating.
Interment: Mill Creek Cemetery, Utica, Pa.
