Daniel Norbert "Dan" Zeitler, Sr., 64, passed away on Thursday (July 20, 2017) after a lengthy battle with familial amyloid cardiomyopathy, surrounded by family at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio.
Dan was born on May 16, 1953, in Sharon to Norbert and Patricia (Duffy) Zeitler.
Dan graduated from the former Kennedy Christian High School, earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Penn State University and a master of science degree in mathematics from Youngstown State University. He also completed doctoral coursework in mathematics and taught at Kent State University.
In 1983, Dan moved to Columbus to work at Chemical Abstract Services, where he was employed for 33 years, most recently as a systems engineer, until his retirement at the end of 2016.
Dan was an avid reader and an active person who enjoyed boating, cycling, hiking, bird-watching, and being outside in nature. He also enjoyed studying math, walking the family pugs, and spending time with his family.
Dan was a member of St. Andrew Parish in Upper Arlington, Ohio.
Dan is survived by: his children, Katie (fiancé Stephen Hruby) and Daniel (Amy); siblings, Bill (Nancy), Mary Lieberman (Mike), James (Kathleen Joint), Helen, Joe (Rose-Marie Drake), Bob (Caty), Ed (Cindy), Meg, and Patti Lizotte (Ray); and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Norene; his parents, Norbert and Patricia; and his brother John.
