Dale D. Davis, 81, North Canton, Ohio, formerly of Mercer, passed away peacefully at 5:45 a.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2017, with his wife at his side in Truman House Hospice, New Philadelphia, Ohio, after an extended illness.
Dale was born April 8, 1936, in Fredonia, a son of David D. and Evelyn I. Rodemoyer Davis.
He attended Mercer High School.
Dale was a gifted mechanic having worked in a variety of mechanical areas. As a young man, he worked in automotive mechanics for Ben Bissett in Mercer, then on to heavy machinery for the S.J. Groves Co. of North Canton. He also built highway bridges in the southern United States. Before retirement in 1998, Dale was a diesel mechanic for the Edward C. Levy Co. in addition to the Timken Steel Co. of Canton. In his retirement, he continued to work on his vehicles, lawn mowers, and invented several gadgets to make his life simpler. He also loved listening to radio talk show programs.
Dale had resided in the Mercer area but made North Canton and Canton his home for over 40 years.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He was of the Protestant faith.
His wife, the former Joyce Sherrill, whom he married June 9, 1990, survives at home. Also surviving are: his three children, Laurie J. (Randy) Hardesty, Jackson Center; Linda L. "Tink" (Tom) Park, Stoneboro; and Michael W. (Bobbi) Davis, Greenville; a granddaughter, Joscelyn Paige Park, Utica; and a sister Bernice Julian, Greenville.
In addition to his parents, a grandson, Michael R. Hardesty, two sisters, Virginia Ann Walker and Lillian Jane Cyrulik, and a brother, David I. "Ike" Davis, preceded him in death.
