Connell A. Keister, 94, a lifelong resident of Sligo, Pa. died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Avalon Springs Place in Mercer.
Born in Sligo on Feb. 25, 1923, he was the son of Pauline (McKinney) and Bart Keister.
Connell married Leona (Cochrane) Keister on Feb. 23, 1946.
She preceded him in death on June 16, 1998.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and fought in the European Theater during World War II, participating in the Normandy Beach D-Day invasion.
Connell worked as a truck driver and as a concrete inspector for PennDOT for 25 years. He established Keister Auto Sales in Sligo in the early 1960s.
In his spare time he enjoyed working in his garage, hunting, selling cars, watching westerns, Pittsburgh sports, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Connell is survived by his daughter, Connie and her husband John Carter, of Mercer; his son, Dennis and his wife Paula, of Rimersburg; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a sister, Betty Kriebel, of Parker; four sisters-in-law, Hazel Keister, of Rimersburg, Lois Cochrane, of East Brady, Beverly Cochrane, of Cleveland, and Nancy and her husband Glenn Wolfe, of Treasure Lake.
In addition to his parents and wife, Connell was preceded in death by his brothers, Lloyd, Dean and William (Bus) Keister; and two infant siblings, Mary and Carl.

Funeral service: 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Walters of Amedisys Hospice officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the ceremonial squads of the Rimersburg VFW and American Legion at the funeral home prior to the service.
Burial: Grandview Cemetery, Sligo.
