Clifford Leroy "Roy" McDowell Jr., 82, of Mercer, passed away at 6:27 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township. Roy was born on Sept. 23, 1935, in East Lackawannock Township to Clifford Leroy McDowell Sr. and Coreita E. Crawford McDowell. He married Anna Kathryn McDowell on Jan. 14, 1956.
Roy was the owner and operator of South Side Market until he sold the store in December 1992.
Roy was a 1952 graduate of Mercer High School, a member of Mercer Rotary for 26 years and a Sunday School teacher and treasurer for years at Big Bend United Methodist Church, where he was a member.
Roy is survived by his wife, Anna "Kate" McDowell, at the residence; one daughter, Debra L., wife of Terry Flannagan, of Greenville; one son, Jeffrey L. McDowell and his wife, Nancy, of New London, N.C.; one sister, Coreita M., wife of James J. Noble, of New Wilmington; two brothers, Ralph W. McDowell of Transfer; John C. McDowell and his wife, Sandy, of Mercer; and three grandchildren, Rebecca Flannagan of Seneca Falls, N.Y.; Jason McDowell and his wife, Ali, of Cary, N.C.; and Kristen McDowell, of Asheville, N.C.
He is preceded in death by his parents.

Service: Funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday (12-2-17) at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tina Keller of Big Bend United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial: Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, East Lackawannock Township.
