Catherine Ann Major, of Farrell, was called from this life to eternal rest at 11:58 p.m. Monday (Sept. 18, 2017) at home after an extended illness. She was 72.
Mrs. Major was born Sept. 6, 1945, in Cheraw, S.C., to Edward and Catherine Dunlap.
She married William Major on June 13, 1964. The two created a loving home and family for more than 45 years. She received her GED from the former Mercer County Vo-Tech.
She was an excellent cook of Southern cuisine for the church, her home and the community, with fried chicken being her specialty. She also was a faithful volunteer for Prince of Peace, working in the kitchen.
Catherine Ann avidly enjoyed crocheting, making lap blankets for patients in the nursing homes in the area. Planting flowers was also a special joy for her.
Mrs. Major was a faithful servant of Second Missionary Baptist Church, Farrell, where she served as treasurer of Missions Ministry and president of the Kitchen Committee and sang in the gospel chorus and senior choir.
Spending time with her family was her treasure; stressing the importance of family values was her main concern.
Catherine Ann is survived by: a daughter, Annetta (Eric) Savage, Farrell; son, William Major and companion Katrina Austin, Sharon; sister, Marie Wynn, Stone Mountain, Ga.; three stepsons, William (Romana) Major, Mark Major, and Tyrone (Kathy), all of Allentown, Pa; four grandchildren, Robert Major, companion Shawnte, Tenishia Major, both of Farrell whom she helped raise, Jason Major, of Allentown, and Charles Crowder of Sharon; three great-grandchildren, Sa'Mya Major, A'Mari Major and Sayvion Thomas, all of Farrell; a special aunt, Charlotte Dunlap, of Farrell; two godchildren, JoAnn West, of Farrell and John West of Phoenix; and her wonderful neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. James Ramsey. She also leaves to cherish her sweet memory a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and husband.

Service: 11 a.m., Monday at the church with Rev. Forrest Underwood officiating and pastor Russell Penn giving the eulogy.
Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
