Betty Lou Hanrahan
Betty Lou was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Hubbard, a daughter of Orville Jack Sr. and Helen L. Smith Wohlgamuth.
She graduated from Hubbard High School in 1944. After graduating, she attended a two-year finishing school at Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, Va.
Betty Lou, alongside her husband, opened a Western Auto Store in Hubbard and ran the local License Bureau. After their children were raised, she began working in the Hubbard school System, holding positions as a library aide, working in the cafeteria, and scheduling the substitute teachers for the school system for 10 years. She retired after 35 years of service.
In past years, Betty Lou belonged to the Hubbard Garden Club; Hubbard PTA; Fortnightly Club; was an officer in the Women's Association at the First Presbyterian Church; and was a Girl Scout leader.
She loved to read and in later years read three to four books a week. Betty Lou was happiest spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored.
Her husband James, her high school sweetheart whom she married Aug. 15, 1946, passed away Dec. 18, 2012, after 66 years of marriage.
She will be sadly missed by her three children, Janet Murray of Niles, Ohio; James (Monica) Hanrahan of West Middlesex; and Richard (Christine) Hanrahan of Canfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Carrie (Bart) Goble; Jennifer (Jeff) Kollar; Erin (Tony) Gabrovsek; Stephanie (Brian) Racz; Kristopher (Jenna) Hanrahan; Lauren (Louis) Suarez; Bryan Hanrahan; and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, her brother Jack Wohlgamuth II; daughter-in-law Joanne Hanrahan; and son-in-law Larry Murray.
The family would like to personally thank the staff at Liberty Arms Assisted Living Facility and Dr. Blecher for their loving care of Betty Lou during her four years there, and to the nurses at Northside Hospital.
