Barbara Ann (Moose) Osborne, of Albion, Pa., passed away suddenly of a heart attack on Nov. 3, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was 80.
She was born Aug. 24, 1937, in Mercer, the daughter of late Roy and Elsie (Ligo) Moose.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Harold Thomas Osborne of Albion; her son, Keith Osborne and his wife Lisa and their children Bryanna, Randee and Caelin of Lake City, Pa.; and daughter Zoe Osborne and husband David Klein and their son Max Klein of Palo Alto, Calif. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Surviving are sisters-in-law Catherine Moose and Audrey Moose.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Robert Moose and wife Mary, Richard Moose, Don Moose and his wife Shirley, and Dwight Moose.
Barbara graduated from the Indiana State Teacher's College, now Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and took additional classes at Penn State. She was an elementary teacher for 30 years, teaching one year at Zelienople Elementary School, Evans City; six years at Conneaut Elementary School; and 23 years at Northwestern Elementary School in Albion. She mostly taught third grade before retiring in 1993.
In retirement, she and her husband became avid RVers, visiting 49 states (all but Hawaii), as well as touring five Canadian provinces and visiting Mexico multiple times. They also visited most of the National Parks and caves. They found a community spending 15 years wintering in Tucson, Ariz., at the Voyager RV Resort. While at Voyager, Barbara sang in the 80-member choir then became the organist and choir accompanist for the church there. The choir was voted the best church choir in Arizona during her tenure there, and they were subsequently invited to represent the state of Arizona in England. While at Voyager she also tutored students two days a week at the local elementary school.
Barbara and her husband became hiking coordinators guiding other RV residents around many hiking trails and vistas surrounding Tucson.
Originally, her father had wished that she become a music major, but she graduated in elementary education. However her love of music stayed with her throughout her life. She took organ lessons at Westminster College under the direction of Dr. Raymond Ocock and continued to use her playing talents in the community and the church for the enjoyment of many.
Barbara was an active member and organist for Grace United Methodist Church in Albion for over 50 years. The church and its community were an important part of her life and she worked on many different committees and outreach projects, including the United Methodist Women's Club.
In the community, Barbara was a volunteer at the Albion Public Library. She helped every year at the Albion Area Lion Club's chicken dinner held at the Albion Fair and volunteered to sell fair tickets as well. She was a member of the Curlet Club and held the office of president several times.
She was a people person who never had a cruel word to say about anyone. She truly enjoyed life.
