Allen's Story

Allen Schaeffer, 92, of Sandy Lake, Sandy Lake Township, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at 3:10 a.m. at Grove City Medical Center.
Allen was born in Grove City on Aug. 27, 1925, to the late Charles Troy and Lilly Lee Owen Schaeffer.
Allen grew up in Millbrook and attended the Millbrook Country School and then Sandy Lake High School. He proudly served his Country in the United States Army during World War II, he was a Victory and Occupation of Japan Medal recipient. Allen was a mechanic at Walker Chevrolet in Sandy Lake for 34 years having retired in 1990.
He married his wife of 64 years, Martha Emily Long Schaeffer, on May 9, 1953. They have been inseparable ever since and made quite the team. He attended Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church. Allen enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, woodworking, gardening, and being outdoors while hunting.
In addition to his wife, Allen is survived by three sisters-in-law, Lois Ann Schaeffer, Virginia Snyder, and Norma Norman; two brothers-in-law, William (Carol) Long and William (Lura) Cochran, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his in-laws W. Raymond "Red" and Helen Long; brother Clair Schaeffer; sisters-in-law Ruth Long, Patricia Loll and Willadean Cochran.
